As much as I would like you to hire me, sometimes people cannot afford to hire a private lawyer. That's just reality. Here are some organizations that do great work and have fantastic lawyers.

If you are being evicted and you cannot pay for a private lawyer but you can pay a little: Eviction Defense Network or BASTA.

If you are being evicted and you cannot pay any lawyer at all: Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Legal Aid Society of Orange County, Bet Tzedek.

If you just want to know what the law says about tenants' rights, the State of California publishes a handy booklet on the subject: California Tenants: A Guide to Residential Tenants' and Landlords' Rights and Responsibilities.

If you want to make sure I'm licensed (you should do this with all lawyers):
California State Bar Attorney Search.

If you want a referral to another private attorney for eviction defense: Elena Popp

If you want a referral to another attorney for any other type of litigation:
Los Angeles Bar Association Legal Referral and Information Service.

Friends of the family:

If you've been busted by the Feds: Donald C. Randolph, Randolph & Associates
If you've been busted by the State: Anthony J. Pullara
If you own a liquor store and need an attorney who specializes in ABC law: Solomon, Saltsman & Jamieson
